Located in the heart of Big Sky's Mountain Village, this historic hotel was part of the late NBC News broadcaster Chet Huntley's original vision for Big Sky Resort. The Huntley Lodge sits on the plaza at the base of the mountain, with the Explorer Lift just out the back door.
Under the same roof are restaurants, shopping, ski storage, meeting rooms, and the Solace Spa. The Huntley Lodge includes convenient access to an outdoor heated pool, two outdoor hot tubs, and a fitness center.
Location is great, rooms need updating.
Rooms are bit run down and paper thin walls lead to unwanted audible intrusions into your personal space but if you ski and play hard you'll sleep right through it. Rest of hotel is nice with many gathering areas and ski-in ski-out accommodations and the rides to the town center by the "cowboys" were very convenient. Great pre-ski buffet breakfast that's staffed by great people.
Excellent experience
Room was great. Service was excellent. Everyone was friendly. Breakfast was awesome. Great menu at the Chet’s reastaurant.
Great Hotel. Access to pool could be improved and to the hot tub
Nice rooms, great staff. The other hotel that is attached to the hotel has an indoor jacuzzi that is attached to the outdoor pool so you can go directly from indoors to the outdoors. The Huntley you have to walk about 50 yards on pavement to get to the outdoor pool. Would be nice if they could find a more convenient way to heat the walkway to the pool or connect it like the other attached hotel. Other than that great close to ski slopes Almost ski in and ski out. Buffet breakfast is great and really nice hotel with great seating areas by fireplaces.
Our stay was unexpectedly enjoyable
We stayed 4 nights at the Huntley Lodge and were expecting the hotel to be noisy and in need of updating from the reviews but we were pleasantly surprised to not have either issue. Our room was very spacious, comfortable, well equipped with storage space for our gear, and clean. Housekeeping was good and did not interfere with us. We did not experience any noise between rooms, and only once in the hall, briefly. Mini fridge, wi-fi and flat-screen TV were nice and ran well (we had not had proper TV in 10 days!). Beds were very comfortable and had nice linens. In the resort we thoroughly enjoyed the buffet breakfast which was very well run, offered a huge selection of fresh food that changed daily, and was in a lovely setting looking at the mountain. We were seated by the window each day by a different person. The system for tipping was a little odd, but not really annoying. We also used Chet's Bar to have a drink and listen to the entertainment one night. We missed the Snow Bar on the mountain which sounded like fun but we had to be elsewhere for group activities. We would have liked to go to the Fondue Stübe but it wasn't open while we were there. Front desk was pretty nice, except they couldn't print out our boarding pass. Boot valet was terrific once we found it, the 2nd day. Parking was pretty convenient although not covered. The whole resort has nice décor and fireplaces, comfortable common areas where people gather. The only things we did not love about the place were: long, long halls to walk down to get anywhere (at least from our room!), the OJ served at breakfast could be better and the huge windows in our room need to be kept a little cleaner...I know that's hard in their conditions out there. Otherwise it is a really well run resort with quite friendly and efficient staffing. The location is very good for skiing also. Just a short walk.
Based on price expected better
Overpriced for the quality. Paper thin walls. Poor job on housekeeping. Supper at restaurant wasn't good. Do have to say though that all of staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet included was really good.
Convenient Location & Affordable Pricing
The Huntley Lodge provided the perfect accommodations for our Easter vacation. We spent 3 nights in a guest room with two queen beds. The room was spacious enough for all of our luggage (and we had a lot). It offered a walk-out balcony and wet bar with mini-fridge which was perfect to keep our beverages cold.
The Huntley Lodge's breakfast buffet offered lots of options and varied from day to day. The view of the mountains from the dining room was spectacular and the perfect way to begin the day.
I also spent some time soaking my sore legs in the slopeside pool and hot tubs, a perfect way to end the day!
