Snowmass Westin going downhill!
It is a shame that this great location is declining. My room this year did not have any lights in half of the room. There wasn't a floor lamp next to the chair, the desk did not have a lamp, the reading lights over the bed did not work, and the lights between the beds were burnt out. First day requested house keeping to repair. Next day I took the burnt out light bulbs to the front desk and was told they would be replaced. When I returned those same two bulbs were put back in the fixture. It did not work. I gave up and learned to navigate in the dark.
Westin hotel is OK, not great.
The Westin Hotel is as close as you can get to slope side and the Ski Valet at the hotel was top notch. They put your skis and poles outside ready to go, brought you your boots and stored your shoes. On return you handed your skis to an attendant outside and walked in for your shoes etc. The walk out was less than 50 feet. The hotel is an older facility that was completely remodeled about 4 years ago. The rooms are adequate but not spacious. Halls are narrow and wander all over the place through a series of additions and levels. The restaurant breakfast was costly ($30 + tax and tip) for what was offered and there was no al a carte items available for the lite eater. We found out that most people had breakfast included with their meal via voucher but we did not have that offered to us. We chose to eat elsewhere after the first day. Restaurants in the village are VERY pricy although a few more reasonable options were discovered. Venga Venga, Basecamp, Slice and Il Poggio were good and more cost effective all located right outside the hotel. Transportation in the area is great, free and runs until 2:30 AM. The people at the hotel were friendly and helpful.
Great Location!
I had the pleasure of staying at the Westin for three nights! The staff at the hotel was what stood out to me. As usual, I had my bike and they had a service to store it for me with the option to get it whenever I wanted it. That was awesome. The 'Skittle', as they call it, is a small gondola, slope-side at the Westin. When you walk outside you walk across a patio with a couple of restaurants that had cozy outside dining options. Walk a few steps further and you are on the slope (or at the bike trail)! The Skittle gondola offers a quick 4-minute ride down to the Snowmass Village where there are shops and more restaurants. We had dinner and drinks on the outside patio of the Base Camp restaurant. It's a convenient location and the ambiance was fantastic with fire pits, couches and an awesome view of the mountains. A quick ride back up and I was at the Westin once again. Overall this was a great property and I would recommend it to families who are looking to stay in the Snowmass area and have a close proximity to the mountain.
