    Skiing Beaver Creek

Beaver Creek skiing is just like every other experience you’ll have during your vacation: exceptional. While some resorts excel at providing terrain specific for a certain type of skier, Beaver Creek can boast being something to everyone. First-timers to aggressive skiers looking to drop cliffs will feel like this mountain was made for them.

Beaver Creek is known as a “World Cup Mountain” because the annual World Cup men’s downhill race—and several women’s World Cup events—are held on its Birds of Prey run. The skiing at Beaver Creek is right in line with the resort’s specialty: world-class experiences. Steep, wide-open, blue runs—like those found underneath the Grouse Mountain and Birds of Prey chairlifts—are favorites of intermediate skiers. Beginners flock to the looker’s left portion of the mountain, where the Drink of Water chairlift allows novices to get up on the mountain, enjoy scenic views of the surrounding mountains and take long runs to the base village. And, while Beaver Creek isn’t known for its extreme terrain, the Stone Creek Chutes area features a handful of rocks to jump off and tight tree runs to navigate—sure to please the expert skier looking for a true challenge.

Beaver Creek Cookies (served at 3 p.m. daily)

No matter what your skiing ability, you can rest assured that the resort is doing everything in its power to make Beaver Creek skiing as safe as possible; they were awarded the National Ski Area Association’s Best Overall Safety Award. Everyone can end the day with fresh, homemade chocolate chip cookies, served daily at 3 p.m.

    Magical Winter Wonderland

    4 days of skiing

The snow and skiing were great, with enough easy to moderate runs for our son who is more of a beginner to intermediate. There is plenty of hard stuff if that is your wish as well. Bring money, because everything is more expensive than you think it should be. We had a private lesson, my wife and I, and our son did ski school 2 days and all instructors were great. It was a great vacation, and our second trip to beaver creek.

    Beaver Creek ski trip

Our ski experience was wonderful. The mountain is always so well maintained. I will say, however, that I did not see many, if any, ski patrol on the mountain. The snow was falling fairly heavily and the it was very windy so I expected to see some patrol. With the exception of Hooked, we enjoyed our dining experiences.

    Awesome

Love Beaver Creek. Amenities great. Restaurants great.

    Great skiing

Very good skiing. Lift lines were just right. Not too many waits.

    Tons of fun!

Beaver Creek never disappoints! We had a blast. This is truly a magical place.

    Village on the Mountain

It was our first time in Beaver Creek and we immediately loved how close the village was to the mountain. It's a beautiful place and we will return next year!

    Beautiful Resort

The most beautiful resort and friendly employees. We loved that during the peak season, it didn't feel overly crowded.

Beaver Creek / Vail review Jan 2020

Great snow, mountain was awesome offering different ski levels and opportunities for our group that ranged from beginner to advance or advance intermediate skiing.

fun Family Vacation at Beaver Creek

Fourteen of us - three generations of very extended family - spent a wonderful week at a large home in the Batchelor's Gulch section of Beaver Creek. The house - Snowberry 26 - was close to perfect for our needs; wonderful family rooms, bar, theatre (yes), steam baths and hot tub. We skied/snowboarded every day and always ended up in the hot tub or the swimming pool at the Ritz, which was available to us. We ate out three nights; all great - Mirabelle, Splendido and Grouse Mtn. Grill, and ate in the other nights. We went skating several times "downtown". The transportation service was wonderful; just a quick call and they were there, and the drivers gave us quite a few tips about where to ski and visit. The bar/restaurant at the top of the Batchelor Gulch lift was a favorite for lunch.

    Big Family Trip

We had 10 people and 3 generations including one first time skiier

    1. It is very easy to get to

There are numerous daily flights to Eagle Airport (EGE) in Colorado from cities all around the country. Even better, there are non-stop flights from ten cities: Los Angeles, Dallas/Ft Worth, Houston, Denver, Miami, Atlanta, Newark, New York, Minneapolis, Chicago and Toronto. I guess that makes it an international airport. Once you land in Eagle, it is an easy 30 minute trip to Beaver Creek, with no mountain passes to negotiate.

    1. It is a “hidden gem”

Most people have probably heard of Beaver Creek but I would still put it in the hidden gem category. The wide variety of ski terrain definitely makes it a gem. The Centennial and Bachelor Gulch lifts access some great cruisers – very wide runs of varying steepness. Red Buffalo is a gentle green run through a beautiful forested area and is the starting point for every kid’s favorite run: Jackrabbit Alley. For a little more pitch, try Gold Dust or Harrier. If you want steeps and bumps, head to Grouse Mountain and Birds Of Prey.

The hidden aspect of this gem is the fact that there are never any lift lines. Ok, you might have to wait a few minutes if you arrive at the chondola at 9:45am during high season, but even then I promise that you will be on the lift in no time at all. There are a lot of skiers in the Denver/Boulder area but they have to drive past 6 major ski areas before they get to Beaver Creek. The result is that most of them go elsewhere. Beaver Creek skiers can find fresh tracks all day on a powder day.

    1. No hovels

Ok, hovel is maybe too strong a word but you know what I mean. We have all stayed in a condo in ski country that still looked like our grandma’s house in the 70’s. Orange shag carpet, avocado colored kitchen appliances, ghastly floral wallpaper. There are a few of them out there still, but I promise you there aren’t any of them in Beaver Creek. In Beaver Creek, the lodging ranges from really nice to incredibly nice. Most properties are ski in/ski out or within a very short walk of a ski lift. They even have escalators in the village so that you don’t have to walk up any stairs. If you stay anywhere in the Beaver Creek resort, you will be extremely comfortable in a very nice property. Totally linoleum-free.

    1. Cookies!!!

Beaver Creek is a very family-friendly resort. A prime example of this is that they hand out warm, freshly-baked cookies every day at 3pm at the base of the Centennial lift and on the second level of the escalators. Look for the people with the chef hats and a mob of happy kids. And yes, adults get cookies too.

    1. Great restaurants

Some of the best restaurants in ski country can be found in Beaver Creek. A few of my favorites are Mirabelle, Grouse Mountain Grill and Toscanini. For a unique mountain dining experience, try Beano’s Cabin. Beano’s is up the mountain in a quiet meadow and is accessed by sleigh. They provide you with nice, warm blankets for the ride up and there is always a welcoming fire and fabulous meal waiting for you when you arrive. Reservations are definitely recommended at these restaurants.

    1. Outdoor ice skating rink

The hub of the Beaver Creek village is the outdoor ice skating rink. You can’t miss it. Skates are available for rent and it is a fun activity for the whole family. If your kids are like mine, they still have energy left over at the end of a ski day, so the skating rink is an excellent activity for them. If Mom and Dad would rather sit by a fire with a beverage, there are numerous comfy chairs and couches (with fire pits, of course) around the rink.

Beaver Creek is a wonderful family friendly resort. The crowds are minimal and for a dad that makes the ski experience much more relaxing. We love to get up early and ski the fresh corduroy that is in abundance at the Beaver Creek Ski resort. With plenty of fun runs and ski in ski out lodging this resort makes for a great family vacation. As a added bonus the resort offers fresh hot homemade cookies gratis at the base of the resort daily. From easily accessed beginner and ski school terrain to open-your-eyes-and-scream steeps, Beaver Creek Ski Resort has it all. If your idea of a ski vacation is accessible terrain for everyone in the group, a moonlit sleigh ride or gourmet dining, Beaver Creek is for you. Since Beaver Creek lies in a gated community, you and your family will have the village to yourself after the chairlifts stop running. Don't rule out the romantic ice rink. If the fire pits do not warm you up, spinning around like a toddler will. While Beaver Creek Resort offers something for everyone at night, you can always hop a bus and for a quick ride to Vail for party-til-dawn action. Otherwise, there are enough restaurants to eat somewhere different every night during your ski week if you don't want to venture out of your perfect paradise.
