    Wengen is Wonderful

This was our sixth trip to Wengen and staying at the Schonegg. There's plenty of skiing and the town has a nice cozy feel to it without all the crowding of Zermatt, where we love to ski, too. It's also nice when you return to a place you know because the locals recognize you as does the hotel staff. It makes for a wonderful experience.

A Wonderful Place to Ski in Switzerland

Wengen is one of those lovely small villages in the Jungfrau / Bern Oberland region of Switzerland that is pure pleasure.

Wengen is a lovely place to be

Wengen is a lovely town that is relaxed and not as hectic as many ski towns in Switzerland and not full of tourists. It's only crazy during the World Cup in January, so I'm told. Plenty of access to ski slopes and also the Jungfraujoch - the highest place in Europe.

    Wengen has ambience

Wengen is wonderful, the only way in is by cog rail therefore there are almost no cars in the old world town but it does have all the modern home comforts. Wengen has direct access to some of the most senic mountains in the world via gondola or cog railway. On the same ski pass you can also ski two other resorts Muren and Griddelward as the are connected .I will be back there for my 5 visit in 2012 just love it.

Everything about Wengen is charming – from the train ride down into the village from the top of the Jungfrau, to the delightful Swiss chalet-style hotels that line the streets. It’s a much smaller, more quaint resort, and in my opinion, would be a great fit for those who don’t really take their skiing too seriously. The village’s main street makes for a great shopping stroll, and the views from every angle look straight out of a postcard. Since it’s a smaller resort, the terrain is quite a bit more limited, so more advanced skiers may struggle to find enough runs to entertain and thrill. However, for true intermediates, there are a lot of long, gentle runs (maybe not accessible during spring skiing, but definitely in the heart of winter!) that should be perfect. The town itself, as aforementioned, is full of charm – which makes it a fantastic choice for families as well as groups that have a mix of skiers and nonskiers.
