If you look at a trail map and notice black and double black diamonds dominating what looks to be the entire mountain, don’t fret. Sure, Mammoth’s ridgeline is an expert skiers paradise, but beginners have plenty of options. With 25 percent of the terrain marked as green beginner terrain, you can bet a Mammoth ski vacation will please novice skiers or snowboarders
The vast majority of green runs at Mammoth are found near the base of the mountain. First timers or early beginners will want to stick to the gentle slopes and shorter chairlifts around Main Lodge village and Canyon Lodge. Both feature a handful of ideal beginner runs. For more experienced novices, there are some scattered dark green runs worth navigating to, especially Easy Rider accessed from the top of Canyon Express or Roller Coaster. The trail is wide and a touch steeper than other green runs and offers progressive beginners the opportunity to comfortably test their skills. There are also more challenging green runs off of Eagle Express and Chair 25 chairlifts.
