Mammoth has naturally divided terrain, essentially, so intermediates will find ideal terrain around mid-mountain. Don’t let a Mammoth trail map talk you out of a ski vacation. Sure the top half of the resort is entirely black and double black, but 40 percent of the terrain is designated as intermediate. So intermediates hold the majority of Mammoth’s terrain.
On your first day at Mammoth, you’ll probably want to start out from the Mill Café base area village. The Stump Alley Express access the a perfect warm up run: Stump Alley, which offers intermediates wide-open cruising. Mambo is also a run worth taking in that zone. Once you’re back at the top of Stump Alley Express hop on Face Lift Express to take in some of the best blue-square accessible views. From here you can enjoy the expansive splendor of St. Anton, Gremlin’s Gulch an World Cup, and despite their above treeline locale are all pitch perfect blues. Gold Rush Express to Cloud 9 Express also accesses a slew of blue and dark blue runs. There are so many intermediate and advanced intermediate runs on that side of the mountain that you could ski on a new run for days to come.
